Chapter Seven
Crispin
I rushed home like a kid who knew that Santa was waiting in my living room with a big old sack of presents. Bailey had definitely been giving off vibes that his stocking was ready to be stuffed tonight, that much was certain. I was just glad that Fiona had asked for a little overtime to make some extra holiday cash and that she would be baking the next dayâs stock that night. It meant I was free to treat Bailey to a real date.
Of course, as soon as I got to my apartment and looked around, the hope that I could give my flirty little omega a night he would never forget flattened. My apartment wasnât small by any means, but it was a little bleak and barren. I spent way more time downstairs in the shop and the kitchen than I did in my own living space.
The walls of my place were bare of any artwork or decorations. The living room only had a sofa, an armchair, and a TV. The dining room and kitchen area had little more than standard kitchen appliances and a table with two chairs. I didnât even have a Christmas tree or anything remotely festive set up.
Nothing about the apartment had a chance of impressing Bailey intoâ¦into what? What did I want to accomplish with this date? The question rolled around my head as I hurried through showering and changing into something slightly nicer than my floury, stained jeans and t-shirt. Did I want to convince Bailey to commit to a long-term relationship? I certainly felt bonding potential between the two of us, but there were a lot of relationship steps before the whole feeling each otherâs souls as if they were your own phase.
That didnât stop me from quickly changing the sheets on my bed and spraying the room with the ridiculous, musk-scented room spray Devon had given me as a joke when Iâd passingly mentioned to him that I thought a certain omega customer was cute, and tidying everything else as if I were building a nest for my omega.
I grinned as I thought of Devon and some of the shenanigans weâd gotten up to in the early days of the bakery as I moved to the kitchen and started pulling out ingredients to make supper for Bailey. I hoped Devon was doing well at pastry school. I hadnât spoken to him for over a week, but as I chopped vegetables and breaded the chicken, it occurred to me that I should really give him a call to discuss the Al situation.
Dinner was well underway and starting to fill the apartment with delicious scents when a knock at the door sent my pulse soaring. I nearly dropped the knife I was using to cut up a garnish as I stepped away from the counter and hurried into the front room.
It was ridiculous, but I couldnât shake the feeling that this was it. This was the first day of the rest of my life.
